The Pembroke Lumber Kings will kick off their new season on September 22 in Cornwall, their first of 55 regular season games. The Central Canada Hockey League recently released its 2022-23 schedule which has the Kings playing their home opener on Sunday, September 25 against the Carleton Place Canadians. Opening night will be a 7 p.m. face-off.
The Kings will play 26 of their 28 home games at the Pembroke Memorial Centre. Their other two home games will be played at the Sens Plex in Ottawa during the league wide Showcase event on Thanksgiving weekend. At Showcase, the Kings will play three games in three days as they face Nepean, Navan and Carleton Place.
Most of Pembroke’s home games will be played Sunday evenings, but there are also three Wednesday night home games and a matinee on Super Bowl Sunday when the Kings host the Smiths Falls Bears for a 2 p.m. start. The Wednesday games are January 18 versus Hawkesbury, February 8 against Kemptville and March 8 when Rockland comes to town.
The defending champion, Ottawa Junior Senators first visit to Pembroke will be on Sunday, December 4 while the Kings regional rival, the Renfrew Wolves, make their first trip to Pembroke on December 18 which will be the Kings last game before taking a three week break for the Christmas holidays. The Kings will wrap up their regular season on Sunday, March 19th when they host the Rockland Nationals.
The Kings will have several new players in their line-up after losing to the Brockville Braves in a seven-game quarter-final series last year. Game seven was a classic, lasting into the fourth overtime period, making it one of the longest games in the 61 year history of the league.
Training camp will open for the Kings at the Pembroke and Area Community Centre on August 25. No exhibition games have been scheduled as of yet. Season tickets are currently on sale.
